Horn Wind, LLC

A Business for North Texans.

By understanding where we use electricity in our home and which components use the most, we are able to cut out electric bill substantially. How much? As much as 20%!

The average Texas resident¡¯s electricity usage breaks down into the following percentage of use per month:

A/C              27%    Lighting          11%      Cooking           6% Heating        12%    Refrigerator/Fr 8%      Electronics/TV10%  Cloths/Dish  6%     Water Heater 14%      Other                 6%

The following tips can help you save on your monthly electric bill:

a. Take advantage of sunlight and leave lights off during the day if possible.

b. Use compact fluorescent light bulbs in place of conventional incandescent light bulbs. A CFL uses approximately one-fourth the wattage for about $20/bulb in savings per year.

c. Choose light fixtures that require fewer bulbs, or unscrew some bulbs in existing.

d. Change out a tub TV with an same size LCD model. LCD is much more efficient.

e. Use products with the Energy Star logo. In particular, replacing old refrigerators with an Energy Star-approved one can save a few hundred KW-hours/year.

f. Set your furnace/AC fan to "auto" rather than "on" so it will not run when the furnace/AC unit itself is off. The fan uses a significant amount of electricity.

g. Leave hot water in the bathtub or in cooking pot

instead of draining it immediately. This allows the

water's stored heat to dissipate into your home.

h. Consider installing and using a clothes line for

drying clothes. Each load not dried in an electric

dryer saves 3-5 KW-hrs(6 loads/wk=$15/mo save)
